How Often Should You Repaint Your Villa in Dubai?

How Often Should You Repaint Your Villa in Dubai?

Dubai is brutal on paintwork

Relentless UV, fine sand that acts like sandpaper in the wind, and humidity that swings with the seasons — Dubai's climate ages paint roughly twice as fast as milder climates. Here's the honest timeline we give our own customers.

Exteriors: every 4–6 years

South and west-facing walls take the worst of the afternoon sun and fade first. If you see chalking (a powdery residue when you rub the wall), hairline cracks, or color that's clearly duller than the shaded sides, the protective layer is failing — repaint before moisture gets in.

Interiors: every 5–7 years

Interior paint lasts longer, but high-traffic areas — hallways, kitchens, kids' rooms — show wear sooner. Bathrooms need moisture-resistant paint; standard paint in a steamy bathroom will peel within a couple of years.

Signs it's time now, not next year

Peeling or bubbling paint (moisture underneath), visible cracks in the coating, faded or patchy color, and stains that won't wash off. Painting over failing paint without preparation just wastes money — the new coat peels with the old.

What proper preparation looks like

Washing or sanding the surface, filling cracks, priming bare spots, then two full coats of quality paint. Preparation is about 70% of a paint job that lasts — it's also the step most often skipped by rushed contractors.

Choosing paint for Dubai

For exteriors, use weather-resistant acrylic paints formulated for Gulf sun and heat. For interiors, washable finishes in living areas and moisture-resistant ones in bathrooms and kitchens. Quality paint costs more per litre but needs fewer repaints — it's cheaper over a decade.
